$2M grant to help 475 laid-off St. Louis workers

The U.S. Department of Labor announced a $2 million grant to assist 475 workers laid off from several St. Louis companies, including Continental AFA Dispensing Co., Macy's Inc., TRUE Fitness Technology and Western Union.The grant, announced Tuesday, will pay for career counseling, education and skills training, Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao said in a release. About $1.2 million of the grant will be released initially, and additional funding up to the amount approved will be made available from the Missouri Division of Workforce Development as it demonstrates a continued need for assistance, the labor department said.
